FFA Member Profile: Abby Woitalla, Treasurer

Posted

Tell us about your farm and family. My dad and uncle own and operate our family dairy farm, Woitalla Dairy LLC. We milk around 130 cows in a double-8 parlor. All our dairy animals are raised from birth on the farm. Our farm produces all our own feed, and we rotate mostly corn and alfalfa. My dad and uncle also own and operate our broiler chicken barn, K&K Poultry. Through this barn, we raise around 42,000 chickens for Pilgrim’s Pride.

Why did you join FFA? I joined FFA because it is a family tradition. Both of my parents served as officers when they were in high school. My older sister was also an officer throughout her time in FFA. I joined to learn about different avenues in agriculture and to try new things.

What is your role in the chapter? In my officer role, I keep a record of receipts and payments for our chapter. I participate in officer training and work with the other officers to promote the FFA organization to others in our school.

What FFA contests do you compete in? I currently compete in the companion animals CDE. This last school year, I also competed in my two SAE proficiency applications. I competed in the dairy production and poultry production categories. I placed first in poultry production at the 2025 state convention and placed bronze on the national level. In past years, I have also participated in the best informed greenhand and floriculture competitions.

What do you look forward to most in the upcoming FFA year? Overall, I look forward to working with my advisors and other FFA officers to make our chapter as successful as it can be. More specifically, I look forward to preparing for FFA week and the fun activities that are planned. I also look forward to completing an SAE proficiency again this year.

How has FFA shaped you as a person? FFA has made me more outgoing and less hesitant to try new things. I have learned to work as a team to achieve goals, and I have made many friendships. By doing my SAE proficiencies, I have learned to keep accurate records, which has also helped me in my treasurer position.

What are your duties on the farm? When I started helping on my family’s dairy farm, I was responsible for feeding calves. Since then, I have gained responsibilities such as mixing the total mixed ration feed, feeding milk cows, cleaning barns and working in our broiler chicken barn. I also help with field work, primarily raking hay and pumping the manure pit.

What are your future plans? Currently, I don’t have a solid plan for what I want to do in the future. I am keeping my options open and gathering information through FFA and career events. I do know I want to pursue a career in agriculture in some way.
